Wedding Wednesday: Curated Skincare Routine

Wednesday, May 9, 2018

#happilyeverpong is only 5 months away! I wish time would pass by faster, but for now I need to continue prepping my skin so that it’s the best that it can be for the big day. I got help from my dear friend Christine, who is also a Sephora Senior Skincare Advisor, to curate an updated skincare routine for me with the bunch of products I already had.

To get off any makeup from the day, Christine recommended oil cleansing: "Oil dissolves oil so it gets all the makeup out of your pores".

For makeup in the eye area, I use my longtime Sephora Collection Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover. It's an OG & HG product for me which says a lot about it! I use the Shu Uemura Anti/Oxi Skin Refining Cleansing Oil for the face. My parents got it for me in Japan, but I don't think I'll be repurchasing it because it is on the pricier side for me.

I personally double cleanse to make sure all the residue is gone using my Foreo Luna 2* with my Philosophy Purity Made Simple Cleanser. The two of those is almost like a facial massage and deep cleaning combined together.

Christine's recommendations: Boscia Makeup-Breakup Cool Cleansing Oil, Purity Made Simple

Toning & Treating

Christine advised me on the benefits of using a toner: "Toner softens the skin, balances pH, and removes residues of the cleanser".

The toner I have used bottle after bottle for a while now is the Laneige Power Essential Skin Toner for Combination & Dry Skin. It's so silky on the skin!

Christine's recommendations: Peter Thomas Roth Wrinkle X Turbo 24K Gold Line Smoothing Toning Lotion, Kopari Coconut Rose Toner, The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution

Christine also explained to me the benefits of an essence (which I don't have in my current routine but should): "Essence is a first treatment that penetrates deep to that dry layer of skin and helps everything else absorb better. Toning and using an essence are the steps that people are less inclined to do, but should".

Christine's recommendations: Shiseido Eudermine Revitalizing Essence, Tatcha Essence Plumping Skin Softener, Laneige Brightening Sparkling Water Pop Essence

I have a bunch of different serums that I use and Christine supported that: "Specific serums are used to address different skin concerns and are more concentrated in active ingredients".

The things I want to maintain are brightness, radiance, hydration and anti-aging. The current three that I'm currently rotating through are the Laneige Bright Renew Original Serum*, Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair*, and Poetic Blend Ghost Oil.

Christine's recommendations:
- Brightening: Drunk Elephant C Firma Day Serum, Peter Thomas Roth Potent C Power Serum, Caudalie Vinoperfect Radiance Serum
- Acne/texture/pores: Drunk Elephant T.L.C., Sunday Riley Good Genes Lactic Acid Treatment
- Anti-aging: Serums with strong levels of antioxidants
- Hydration: Caudalie Vinosource SOS Thirst Quenching Serum, Drunk Elephant B Hydra Intensive Hydration Gel
- Wrinkles/firming: Serums with retinol, peptides, and Vitamin C
- Redness: Ren Evercalm Anti-Redness Serum

As Christine said: "The eye area is very delicate", so it's important that such a delicate area be treated as well with proper skincare.

The eye cream I'm using right now is the Estee Lauder DayWear Eye Gel. It goes on so smooth and doesn't stay tacky under the eyes.

Christine's recommendations: Perricone MD Hypoallergenic Firming Eye Cream, Origins Eye Doctor Moisture Care for Skin Around Eyes, Algenist Complete Eye Renewal Balm, Biossance Squalane + Peptide Eye Gel

For your moisturizer, Christine said it's important to know your skin type: "There are gels, creams, lotions, oil-free... many different ones to address different skin types. SPF in the morning is always a must". I use my Aveeno Absolutely Ageless Daily Moisturizer with SPF 30 in the morning, and Laneige Bright Renew Original Cream at night.

Christine's recommendations for moisturizers: Sunday Riley C.E.O., Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet, Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Cream, Drunk Elephant Lala Retro Whipped Cream, Philosophy Purity Ultra-Light Moisturizer

Christine's recommendations for SPF: Murad City Skin age Defense, Lancome Bienfait Super Fluid Facial Sunscreen, Clarins UV50 Sunscreen Multi Protection, Origins A Perfect World Age-Defense Moisturizer

Exfoliation & Masks

Christine recommended doing some sort of exfoliation and mask weekly. She gifted me the First Aid Beauty Ginger & Turmeric Vitamin C Jelly Mask to boost my hydration and radiance (and I love it!). I also use the Fresh Sugar Face Polish for exfoliation. When I have the time and feel like doing another mask during the week, I throw on a simple sheet mask for 10-15 minutes.

Christine's recommendations for masks: Glamglow Supermud, Caudalie Instant Detox, Fresh Sugar Face Polish

Christine's recommendations for exfoliation: Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta Ultra Gentle Daily Peel, Tatcha Rice Enzyme Powder, Sunday Riley Good Genes Lactic Acid Treatment

My skin is at its best it has ever been, and this curated skincare routine is keeping that up! Hopefully Christine's suggestions can help you curate your ultimate routine too. :)

  1. The food at this place was delicious. The menu options we had at this place were great (it was hard to choose) and one course was better than the next. It was great that at Chicago wedding venues they had different options for those who didn't eat what we served.
